Blackwater is regarded as Queensland’s ‘Coal Capital’, making it the perfect home to the iconic Australian Coal Mining Museum. The Museum is located inside the Blackwater International Coal Centre and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm. Showcasing over 20 interactive exhibits that explore the Past, Present and Future of the Australian coal mining industry.

Wonder at the size and scale of the massive mining equipment on display, and learn about Australia’s leading role in the development of technologies of global importance.

Discover how coal deposits were formed over millions of years and view ‘real core’ samples displayed in our glass-floor exhibit. You can also step back in time with video memoirs of Bowen Basin residents and early coal mining pioneers and learn how the mining industry once worked. Touch up on your history with our impressive historical timeline spanning 50 metres!

Learn about the different methods of coal mining with replicate miniature 3D models. Watch the entire open-cut mining process on screen, and see how coal is used in the manufacture process of everyday objects. The kids will love our interactive simulator rides where they can test drive a Dragline, Tugboat, Coal Train and heaps more.
